**9-Patch Quilt Block Pattern**

QUILTED HAVEN's image
A 9-patch block is a simple and versatile block made up of nine equal-sized squares arranged in a 3x3 grid.
The example I have given is a basic Friendship Star Block.
**Materials:**
* Fabric scraps or yardage in your chosen colors/prints
* Rotary cutter, ruler, and mat
* Sewing machine
* Thread
* Iron
**Cutting Instructions:**
1. Determine the desired finished size of your 9-patch block. For this example, let's say we want a 9-inch finished block.
2. To calculate the size of the individual squares, divide the finished block size by 3. In this case, 9 inches / 3 = 3 inches. This is the finished size of each small square.
3. Add seam allowance to the square size. Typically, a ¼-inch seam allowance is used in quilting. So, 3 inches + (¼ inch x 2) = 3.5 inches.
4. Cut nine 3.5-inch squares for each 9-patch block. You can cut these from various fabrics to create different looks.
**Assembly Instructions:**
1. Arrange the nine squares in a 3x3 grid according to your desired design.
2. Sew the squares in each row together using a ¼-inch seam allowance. Press the seams in each row in opposite directions.
3. Sew the three rows together, matching the seams carefully. Press the seams of the block.
**Tips:**
* For a scrappy look, use a variety of different fabrics for the squares.
* To create a more organized look, choose a limited color palette or use a repeating pattern.
* Pressing is crucial for accurate piecing. Press seams flat after each step.
* When sewing rows together, pin at the seam intersections to ensure they match up.
* Congratulations, you have designed and pieced your first block!
NOTE: This is a basic 9-patch block pattern. You can adapt it by changing the size of the squares, the number of fabrics used, or the arrangement of the squares.
